If you don’t know Bloody Knives, think back to last year when The Joy Bus was playing a lot of shows in San Antonio. Did you see The Joy Bus? Well if you did and you liked it Preston Maddox (the singer), and Jake McCown (the drummer) have been working on Bloody Knives since about last year. They’re starting to play out more so go see them if you can (The Joy Bus is no longer together). Also check them out Bloody Knives  here and add them. Also we just appeared on the Jesus in space 2010 Compilation from killredrocket records with them.

Soon we hope to have them remixing some of our tracks. It would be the first in the countless times we’ve mixed other people where someone actually returned the favor.

Machine

Awake alone, we let machines breathe for us. Don’t know where I am, but the machines are glorious. We let them work, do what they can. You’ll survive. So long ago, the crooks and thieves had left us. We had nowhere, but the machines protect us. We bite our nails, we bury our heads, and we lie. And we lie.

Leeches

I believe it’s broken. I’ve never seen a sky look quite like that before with my eyes wide open. Tonight we’ll show them, and do all the things we never thought we could  before without those cold hands. We grow like old friends. We’re satisfied like leeches subsisting on your fluid heart. We swell and inflate in your heart. Tonight this parasite is welcomed to the dream.

Deadly Aria

Malevolent, haunting, and feared.  Depression shivers shuddering to the centers of ours and yours. The pessimism pushes me to action. Unconscious reveries of our golden melodies, it powers on. Plight of an Iraqi

See through my sleepy eyes and the painful things you see, jump off the walls at me.  As I close my eyes, explosions faintly. They’re screaming things at me. All will be all right, their bullhorns say to me, as I’m left lonely. Lonely. As my small world sleeps they’re bombing everything. Like flashing lights to me. I had hoped that they would see an end to everything. A way out for free. All will be alright, their bullhorns say to me. As I’m left lonely. Lonely.

Books not bombs

I believe, and I tell everybody else, that we are machines. We are mechanically built. It’s what we were needing. Just bundled wire and distant shells of lives we were leading. Up until I power on. My bloody face and flower heads, they line up in rows. So there is no effective defense. Just be on your toes, you can tell they’re coming by scent. But not with your nose. It’s your self. I believe.

In 2009 I (Jim) stopped playing guitar (mostly). This wasn’t a decision that I made, but a symptom of a larger problem. Matt’s car got robbed. I lost most of my worldly possessions then, and was personally crushed. Matt lost some very important things too (and personally crushed as well I’m sure as he lost a car window and was the person whom they had stolen from), but I was out more monetarily. Most of his stuff happened to not be in the same place luckily because it’s what we’re using now. Unfortunately one of the things Matt had stolen was nearly IRREPLACEABLE and very expensive! Here’s the blog we posted on our myspace when it happened.

Some back info on everything. We lost a Godin freeway bass, a Godin guitar, a Hartke bass amp, a Digitech vocalist vr and an Alesis Quadraverb inside a double rack mount case, our glockenspiel, my notebook, and the irreplaceable item a Digitech RP 12.

Also, we don’t play in San Antonio anymore, but Wax Lounge was always cool and the owner Gina is very nice and may drink with you if she likes you. I highly recommend.

Oh yeah, and don’t you HATE the crap that myspace does to their blogs? How are you feeling (smiley face) what are you doing (watching a whatever Bill Maher movie)…. I digress.

We tried to keep a good attitude about it. So our plan at the time was to just replace what we could muster, and try to find adequate temporary replacements for other things that would be harder to get. This proved a foolish idea. We immediately realized it was serendipitous of us to even run across an RP 12. Digitech made it in the early 90′s. It’s one of the main processors on the The Smashing Pumpkins album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, and it had become an integral part to the way Teleport sounded when performed. We ended up playing a few shows with a terrible replacement for what we’d lost (an Rp 6) and we sounded terrible as a result. We were distraught. Then someone whom we knew from playing shows offered to help us. Check it.

IT WORKS! Thanks Wordofmouth Telleveryone Records Current mood:  thankful Category: Life Some people who say they’re doing something are actually doing it. Come as a surprise? It should. In today’s world it is staggering the number of people you meet who say they do one or another thing, and they do not. Whether this is being a competent and interesting musician, or even something as simple as being a safe and courteous driver. People rarely do what they say they are going to do. This is not the case with Wordofmouth Telleveryone Records…. Some of you may remember we were robbed of nearly everything we use to play live a few weeks ago. We’ve been slowly trying to acquire all the comparable equipment, but it’s been a really hard and expensive process. The stuff we’re using isn’t made anymore, but I don’t need to go that deep into what was lost. We’ve been lucky to have good friends who have been letting us borrow some things (thanks Travis), but this leaves us with A. the burden of not having certain qualities that our particular instruments had and B. the burden of worry that we will somehow harm this piece of valuable equipment. Needless to say we haven’t gotten everything back. We’ve been at a workable medium. To that effect we want to thank Wordofmouth. Wordofmouth shows (for those not in the know) are not paying gigs per se. The money generated is going to funds for emergency situations in the larger music scene. Robbery, accidents, wrecks, etc. Like a band insurance agency, if you play these non paying shows with the agreement of non payment you are part of the umbrella of the services Wordofmouth provides. The project was started by Chris and Lin out of sheer kindness, respect, and love of art. Chris has told me he felt called to do this for everyone. Most bands hopefully will never have to go through any of these unfortunate circumstances, and so will not ever be eligible to be claiming any portion of this said fund. But the knowledge that you DO have SOME safety net SOME kind of cushion, makes you feel a little better. AND IT’S TRUE! They actually helped us. It was VERY helpful. We’re VERY thankful. We want EVERYONE to know that this actually happens, it’s not bullshit. PLAY THEIR SHOWS CAUSE IT COULD BE YOU SOMEDAY! I think if everyone in San Antonio, and even Austin networked with them, and made the fund a bit more money we’d have an even better safety net, one with fluffy pillows, and pretty people helping you off. He gave us the case back, and the glockenspiel. We had already acquired a vocalist vr and the Quadraverb. About a week or 2 later Matt got an Rp 20. The Rp 20 advertised as better. It wasn’t. Sending Matt on a crazed search for the Rp 12 which he found, but in the process learned an ebay lesson and pissed of a seller righteously.

Unfortunately Wordofmouth are not booking shows anymore last I heard. I don’t know if it was lack of support, or just that they were starting a family and went on to do that. Chris and Lin are 2 of the kindest people we’ve ever met, and the fact is that no one really supported their events. Maybe it’s because they weren’t ruthless unscrupulous money hungry whores. Chris once told me the reason he did the fund was because Jesus told him in a vision to do it. That’s drive no matter what you believe in, and maybe that will again spark into a larger flame.

Anyway I was writing this because I’m bored. Now I’ve bored you too, so there. You deserved it anyway. You didn’t support the man driven by God.

Do you like I ok? If so we’re looking for  places to book. Any bands on this list who’d like to play with us you could book us with you (we can reciprocate if you’re touring as well). Any people willing to let us sleep on their floor or possibly better. Or even just information on the clubs in your area where you think we’d fit in that we could contact ourselves. As you can imagine actually finding out if the club is cool from hundreds of miles away is a task. If anyone could help us along with any of this we’d be eternally grateful.

We’re also looking for another label to put out our next record. If anyone has anything there give us a shout.

We’re trying to get a list of contacts together for a real tour. We’ll be starting in Texas in the spring.

Also  through February any merchandise sold on the internet by us, meaning on our zazzle or from any online music sales, the entire proceeds that we gross will be going to the Red Cross for Haiti relief.

We are very proud and excited to be on a comp with so many great artists. Hopefully we can network together to create more of a community between each other. Go give it a download and enjoy it.

We will be VERY SOON NOW posting a blog about the remixes we’ve been working on for Bloody Knives, an artist from the killredrocket records roster and the Jesus in space compilation 2010. We’ve been working on them a long time, but I am a perfectionist and I keep finding problems with one and working on it over and over. Bloody Knives is a great band and they deserve nothing less.

The show we played last night at Thunderbird Coffee was pretty much a bust. We for some reason were double booked with an art show that didn’t want music inside at first. So we just set up outside then they brought us the pa we were using. In one trip, a tiny toy like pa. They said it was small I guess, whatever. So we played to Synesthesia who we were playing with, and his 2 friends. Inside we watched as about 40 people (give or take) milled around in the warmth and didn’t pay us a bit of attention. One guy came out, but we’re not sure if he enjoyed it, or electronic music so much, because he left without saying anything at all. So we stopped early and just passed it off to Synesthesia. He got to play inside, but quietly. Our music sounds less good the quieter it gets, so it ended up being a good thing. Had we been made to play quietly it would’ve sounded horrendous. As it was we played pretty well with our new setup and new material. The 3 people who were there seemed to enjoy it. Synesthesia sounded good at lower volumes, though it obviously would’ve been better had he a real pa. And while we listened to Synesthesia some old friends showed up, unfortunately they missed our set, but it was good to hang out. An altogether decent night I guess. Beats sitting at home playing MW2 on PS3. But I’m pretty sure that’s the last time we’ll be playing Thunderbird coffee. We’re playing @ Plush February 11 so come see us.
